Here is an update of my green home construction at Kerala .
Foundation and Basement work completed
Excavation done with 60 cm wide trench and 70 cm height
PCC laid with 15 cm of height and 40 cm width
Dry rubble with 75 cm height and top finish by plain cement
Rubble masonry with pointing done on top of dry rubble with 60 cm height and 45 cm width
Rubble cost was the major element on the foundation and basement cost .Therefore to control the cost , major focus should be given to type of foundation by innovative foundation design without compromising the stability of foundation .This will help to make your house construction under your budget
Among the material cost ,rubble cost was about 50% of the total cost of foundation material , for which my supplier /contractor charged me about 4000 Rs per 225 SF of load.
18 loads (225SQ F each ) of rubble were required to complete foundation and basement . Our requirement was to raise the basement at 72 cm from the final finish ground level.
8 loads of sands and 50 pack of cement consumed for construction of this 1950 SQ F house construction.
Green philosophy applied by sourcing all required material within 4KM from the site.
Super structure work planned ahead are belt and brick works
Belt concret above the basement is to provide a damp proof course for the brick works .
Country burned bricks with pointing and with no plastering on outside (This will save plastering cement cost, labour cost and less thermal dissipation during the evening time and thus less rise of average outside temp rise.)
Filler slabs to reduce the quanity of cement at the low tension areas will also contribute low material cost .Plastering above the slab and pointing will be done around the filler tile used as a filler material.
Lintel beams above the windows and door span will be avoided by using the flat brick arch or double rat trap brick arch
